Comfort Tonic

Description

Herbal Comfort Tonic may gently aid with symptoms of teething discomfort, restless sleep, and mood concerns.

Ingredients: Organic glycerite of chamomile, lavender, milky oat top, passionflower, and valerian.

PEDIATRIC DOSING: There are many ways to calculate pediatric dosing. Please discuss with a trained herbalist if you need help calculating proper pediatric doses. Please consult with your child’s care provider about any acute health issues.

One pediatric dosing strategy is called Clark’s Rule. Clark’s rule calculates pediatric medication dosage based on the known weight of a patient and a known adult dose. Clark’s rule equation is defined as the weight of the patient in pounds divided by the average standard weight of one hundred fifty pounds multiplied by the recommended adult dose equals the pediatric medication dose, as follows:

• (Child’s weight ÷ 150) x adult dose = pediatric dose
• Example: If an adult dose is 5mL of a specific herb, and baby is 15lbs, the pediatric dose would be 0.5mL.

For young newborns, some lactating parents may choose to take the herb themselves to treat the child. However, for most herbs, we don’t know the actual relative infant dose through human milk. Therefore we would not know exactly how much the infant is getting, or if it is a clinically relevant dose.

Example pediatric dosing based on an average adult dose of 3 mL 1-3x/day:

• 10 lb child = (10 ÷ 150) x 3 mL = 0.19 mL 1-3x/day
• 15 lb child = (15 ÷ 150) x 3 mL = 0.3mL 1-3x/day
• 30 lb child = (30 ÷ 150) x 3 mL = 0.6mL 1-3x/day
