Get the Best Start with Breastfeeding

Description: Please join Melissa Cole, IBCLC, RLC for an informational class on how to set yourself up for breastfeeding success. Melissa, a board certified lactation consultant, has spent over a decade supporting families as they work towards their breastfeeding goals. Class topics will include: preparing to breastfeed, what to expect in the early days, milk supply, position/latch, support partners and more! This class is held at various times and locations, see below for options.

Breastfeeding: Body, Mind & Soul

Please join Melissa Cole, IBCLC, RLC for an informational class on how to set yourself up for breastfeeding success. Melissa, a board certified lactation consultant, has spent over a decade supporting families as they work towards their breastfeeding goals. Class topics will include: preparing to breastfeed, what to expect in the early days, milk supply, position/latch, support partners and more! Expectant parents are invited to come discover and discuss a variety of breastfeeding topics. There will also be time for  questions and conversation. The class outline is as follows:

 Body:

  • Holistically view breastfeeding basics, milk supply and the process of lactation
  • Receive guidance on optimal positioning, latch and reading baby’s signals
  • Learn about how nutrition and dietary issues impact breastfeeding
  • Discuss how birth impacts breastfeeding

 Mind:

  • Enjoy a safe space to share joys, fears and feelings surrounding breastfeeding
  • Discuss expectations and emotional components of breastfeeding
  • Talk about ways partners and others can connect with the breastfed baby

 Soul:

  • Find out about community resources and sources of support
  • Receive affirmations for your breastfeeding journey
  • Make connections with other like-minded parents 

 Fabulous Follow-up Clinic Day

  • When:  7/27/13 from 10 AM-5PM (usually held once per month)
  • Where: Luna Lactation's Clinic 1906 NW 25th Ave Portland, OR 97210
  • Details: Just want a little follow up support but don't need a lengthy appointment? Reserve a time slot where we can  fine tune your care plan and discuss your current concerns. This is also great opportunity to get personalized support regarding topics like going back to work, pumping, starting solids, teething, etc. Follow ups on low cost clinic days are $50 for a 1 hour appt ($35 off the cost of a regular follow up). This clinic day is for established clients only.
  • Book instantly online now or call or email to reserve your 1 hour spot now. For an initial consultation or a regular follow up, please make a separate appointment.

Drop-In Weight Check Day

  • When: Most Every Monday from 10-11:30 am (Please note: NO DROP IN TIMES ON 7/8, 8/26, 9/16, 9/23)
  • Where: Luna Lactation's Clinic 1906 NW 25th Ave Portland, OR 97210
  • Details: Is your sweet baby in need of a weight check? Established clients can feel free to swing by during this time to use our scale free of charge and also pick up any needed lactation-related supplies. Note* If you need hands-on help or a consultation, then please schedule a follow-up. This time is just reserved for weight checks.
  • On days where there is a major holiday, inclement weather and/or public school closure, please assume the weight check drop-in time will be cancelled.

 Drop-In Breastfeeding Support Clinic

  • When: *Currently on hold and plan to re-start this group in January 2013, check back for details or contact us, thanks for understanding
  • Details: Swing on by with your baby and your questions! The drop-in clinic will be facilitated by our board-certified lactation consultant, Melissa. We'll have a high quality scale available for weighing your baby, cozy chairs for nursing in and a compassionate ear for hearing about your current feeding challenges. Clinical consulatations will not be done during the drop-in clinic however our lactation consultant will be able to let you know if further support is warranted and can schedule an appointment with you if needed. Mothers will be able to hang out and share their expereinces with each other. Dads and partners are welcome. No registration is needed, drop in anytime between 10am-12pm. Drop in clinic fee is $5.
